Standards carried by the products
Green cleaning is a choice of product and method, not a badge on the cleaning company. The seven labels you will see named on this page are GREENGUARD, Green Seal, SFI, CRI Green Label, ECOLOGO, EPA DfE and FSC, and each one is a standard that a product earns. None of them is a certification Cal-State holds as a company.
That distinction matters when you are writing a procurement checklist. Green Seal and ECOLOGO cover cleaning chemistry, GREENGUARD speaks to low chemical emissions, CRI Green Label is a carpet-industry mark, and SFI and FSC are forest-product labels that turn up on paper goods. Depending on the building, Cal-State uses a mix of natural and organic materials and products that carry these marks, and you can ask which ones are going on your floors.

Does green cleaning clean as well?
It does, when the right tool and technique are paired with the product. Grease on a break-room range hood, a stained carpet, a ceiling tile, a light fixture: the result comes from technician skill, dwell time and equipment as much as from the label on the bottle, and the crews approach a green job the same way they approach any other.
The schedule does not change either. Washrooms are still sanitized and restocked, floors are still buffed, touchpoints are still disinfected, and tight deadlines are still workable. What changes is the product list, so the building loses the sharp chemical smell in the corridor on Monday morning.
Why buildings switch, and how to book
Offices, retail, restaurants, schools and stores move to green cleaning for the same few reasons. Fewer harsh chemical residues in the air makes for better indoor air quality, staff and visitors who are sensitive to strong smells notice the difference, and gentler products are easier on the flooring, carpets, furniture and fixtures you paid for.
Cal-State also does green house cleaning for private residences, with free in-person estimates. For a commercial building the process is the same: the estimate is free, a consultant walks the space with you, and you decide on products and schedule before any work begins.
